Fender Hot Rod 212 I bought this amp this past summer and I couldn't be happier. The reverb is great on this amp.

It really adds great depth to the overall sound. I have yet to crank. I bought this amp this past summer and I couldn't be happier. The reverb is great on this amp. It really adds great depth to the overall sound. I have yet to crank up this 60W mammoth to the max.

It is very loud, and the noise complaint I got this quarter at college is proof! If you are gonna be practicing at home you better not crank the volume past 2, this beast goes to 12. The distortion? I like it but I will be buying a distortion pedal soon, only because I just want to have have a little more crunch. The clean channel is pretty smooth, really seems to glisten.

The presence knob on the amp does not really do anything. The two inputs are pretty sick if you are gonna be jamming with one of your buddies. So far so good, if you want an all tube amp with some volume and nice distortion. Look no farther. I gave it two stars so you would read this, it may save you your amp!! You can read all the good reviews about how good the amp is they are all true. However,do your self a favor before you leave the store get a new handle.

You can read all the good reviews about how good the amp is they are all true. However,do your self a favor before you leave the store get a new handle. The rubber is weak and the time you lift it in a hurry that strap is going to break ( mine did after a month). Why put a cheap handle on an expensive amp?

I have less expensive amps with nice leather handles. You will thank me on this!!! Either that or buy pro coverage and watch your amp break into pieces but they will give you a new amp.lol. Comments about Fender Hot Rod DeVille 212 III 60W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp: Fender's Hot Rod DeVille 60 watt tube amp with 2x12's is a loud, bright, bassy and clean combo amp, with rich bottom dispersed around the amp by it's birch open back combo cabinet and stock Fender 12's. Because it is a combo amp (open back), Low-end(which is plentiful), disperses round the stage. To get further out front if not mic'd through the P.A.

Or for larger rooms, Fender recommends any of it's 8 ohm enclosures. The DeVille provides good clean support for guitar sound and effects, with generous highs, mids, and bottom end for great versatility. The over-drive channel, can be used judiciously, to get speaker sustain at lower volumes, but there are much better overdrives in other amps. DeVille has three disadvantages: 1.) It's heavy 2.) EQ switches make subtle changes unlike the later models of Fender amps 3.) Volume is fast gain, and it can easily get too loud. A speaker attenuator placed between the 8 ohm speaker output and speaker set can be used to lower volume switch gain. I subtract one star because of it's weight, and being a combo, it still needs a means of getting tone other than highs out in the room. Boss pedals and tonelabs sound great through it.

Comments about Fender Hot Rod DeVille 212 III 60W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp: I replaced my 1977 Siverface Twin Reverb with this amp because it weighs 35 lbs less than the Twin. Too heavy for an old guy.Great tone for Country, Classic Rock, Pop and Jazz. I like the drive channels, but a Metal player would not. The reverb is standard Fender, very nice.

Extremely loud amplifier. Can't set the volume above 2 for playing in the house. The 40 watt would be more than adequate, but I like big amps and could plug my 2 x 12 Vibroking cabinet into this amp for a very full, rounded sound. If this amp lasts as long as my Twin did, it will definitely outlive me.

I love Fender amplifiers. Comments about Fender Hot Rod DeVille 212 III 60W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp: Purchased it used at GC.

I play a cover band - outdoor venues and benefits in large halls. We play some classic rock, some country, some classic metal, blues and some more recent stuff. I'm a Fender guy and this one is a great addition, easy to transport. As clean as the 70's Bassman 410, reverb sounds as good as the Twin RI, and the distortion sounds better than the Fender Distortion pedal through the 60's Super Reverb. Hooked it up to the vintage Bassman (212 Jensen) extension cab and it sounds awesome, big enough for a medium venue with volume on 5, or a large outdoor venue using the preamp line out into the PA.

Pleasantly surprised at the price, a great value new or used. Comments about Fender Hot Rod DeVille 212 III 60W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp: This amp sounds very good and has nice clean sound as well as distortion/overdrive. It is loud and you WILL notice the low tones, something that is missed on smaller amps.

The high frequencies are very clear and sparkly and the mids are full and not hollow as experienced on other amps. The foot switch is made of metal and seems very sturdy. I like the simplicity of this amp and the effects loop is nice if you want to add a pedal or two or three. I've read on the web elsewhere that a lot people slam this amp for the tone of the overdrive channel, I like it and sounds very good on my Les Paul, Casino and Strat.

Just crank down on your gtr volume and crank up the drive and master volume controls then gradually turn up on the gtr volume to get the sound you're after. I guess some just don't like the sound or have gtrs with not-such good pick-ups or are just ego-dorks.

If you want that heavy metal distortion go get a pedal and hook into the effects loop, that's what it is for. It is a heavy amp and you will notice it compared to single speaker, solid-state amps. If you never worked manual labor a day in your life have some one who has move this thing for you. All in all.this is a tube amp and you will notice the difference if you are moving up in the gtr world from a single speaker, solid-state modeling practice amp. The weight thing is a trade-off and is worth it, if you can lift it. The only reason I gave it a 4 star instead of a 5 is because it was made in Mexico. Comments about Fender Hot Rod DeVille 212 III 60W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp: I have been playing through a Blues Jr (and own and use Bugera, Ampeg, Epiphone amps) for awhile now and love the sound, but I needed something bigger with more power and an effects loop.

I spent weeks reading reviews and trying to choose between the regular Deville or the Michael Landau version. I chose the regular Hot Rod Deville, because it has a clean channel and a distortion channel. There are a lot of negative comments about the drive channel on this amp and I get that because tone is a very subjective thing. One person's dream tone is another person's nightmare. But I am going to defend the drive channel here. I don't use massive distortion, running the gain at about 3-4 I get a great sound out of it.

For testing purposes I cranked the drive all the way up and then engaged the 'More Drive' button and had metal heaven. Again, tone is subjective and I am pretty easy to please.but this amp sounds fantastic.

I also run delay, chorus, and a clean booster pedal through the effects loop and they sound great. I tested a Tube Screamer, a Boss Distortion, and a Ritchie Kotzen OMG distortion through the clean channel (ran straight in to the amp) and again, sounded phenomenal with all of them. Clear, warm, classic Fender bell-like chimey tone. You cannot go wrong with this amp. I threw caution to the wind and played a gig with it two days after I got it and rocked the bar. Had the master volume on 2!absolutely love it. Comments about Fender Hot Rod DeVille 212 III 60W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp: This amp has the best clean tone that I've ever heard.

When bands like the Killers, Coldplay, and The Strokes are using this very amp, you know it's going to be a good one. For the record: I'm not a huge fan of Fender amps in general: to me, most of them sound too muffled and have a wamp-y sound to them.

I actually went into the store dead set on buying the Vox AC30, but then my friend recommended I try the Deville. I plugged in, and I was hooked. The bottom-end is incredible, but still maintains a bright, treble-y tone. The headroom is incredible and it is LOUD. Like to the point where if you go past 4, you need earplugs (it goes up to 12, btw).

The only thing I wish I could get out of this amp is a reverb footswitch, rather than having an overdrive footswitch (I use pedals for all of my overdrive/distortion). Other than that, this amp is perfect and I couldn't ask for anything better!

Click to expand.Yes. That's a great platform. A lot of working musicians use that amp! With some simple component mods like a 12Au7 in v1, the Fender stock Grove tube 12Ax7 in v2 and a balanced 12At7 in v3 (That's about $25 in preamp tubes.) to include Biasing those beautiful American 6L6GC on the hot side (about 75mlv at the test point) and Blam! For the money.

'One beast of a kick ass amp!' (Even the Drive channel will shine with the harshness being rounded out by the 12Au7 in v1, getting then brighten up again with 12ax7) then smoothed out again with the 12at7 in the phase inverter. (really rounds the harshness out) Both the 12Au7 and the 12At7 have a higher plate voltage than a 12ax7 (even though both produce less volume they push the next preamp tube as if the volume was much higher due to the plate voltages ) in addition to making your volume more manageable and easier to push the amp into preamp overdrive ( if you bias that amp on the hotter side you will get the power tubes to saturate sooner also) 12Au7 and 12At7 are very rich in harmonics. A lot of people try the 12ay7.

IMO a sterile tube that has about the same plate voltage as a normal 12Ax7.i dont care for that tube. Feel like soldering and that amp can hang with the best of them.

Another $25 in caps and resistors. A 100k metal film in the slope resistor R12 to tighten up the base and mids (that's Black face value) rework the Phase inverter with 100k metal film and Orange drops coupling caps.at C27 and C24 (Orange Imo are a little brighter and sharper than Malory's) C6.022 orange, C5.1 uf Malory and a 220pf Silver Mica in C7 and C18 with.022uf. Optional is C2 C10 with.047uf (I use Orange here) To get that Drive even smoother: C23 usa a.0047uf Malory & and either a 250 or 220pf Silver Mica.in C11 (the treble cut going to the master) Replace the electrolytic caps with F&T's and the resistors at R78 and 79 if they show discoloration, Do all that and you can leave those stock Eminence Fender speakers in. (which you can do anyway those 'Em Legends' are not a bad speaker by any means) Do all that.

Click to expand.I repaired electrical motors (single and 3 phase and whatever controls ran them for years) With a little discipline, gaining the basics in amp electronics is easy. A good place to start is the book 'How to Hot Rod your Fender amp' by Jeffery Falla. Because we are talking the Hot Rod series the internet site called 'The Unofficial Fender Hot Rod Deluxe owners guide' This site has a lot of great mods for the Hot Rod series. My view on these amps and other PCB constructed amps is positive.

(Like Peavy Classics and Fender RI's etc) Once you start to work on them and mod them, you realize that most of the negatives cited on the internet are not really true.
