I don't know what Vox were thinking when they released this amp - it misses the mark as a bass amp in every way. This Vox amp looks great, and sounds. I don't know what Vox were thinking when they released this amp - it misses the mark as a bass amp in every way. This Vox amp looks great, and sounds terrible. It is virtually impossible to get a clean tone OR any bass out of this amp. It is even open back - not right for a bass amp.
Just a box even with the harsh Drive control all the way down. With it up or the slightest amount of volume, it distorts harshly and noisly. It even sounds bad for guitar. Vox used to do some great small bass amps-but this one is a mistake from the beginning. Don't buy -you will be disappointed! Well built-but sounds bad. There are REAL small bass amps out there.
Not this one though. Comments about Vox Pathfinder 10W Bass Combo Amp: I don't know what Vox were thinking when they released this amp - it misses the mark as a bass amp in every way. Needs an external speaker out. Comments about Vox Pathfinder 10W Bass Combo Amp: To be honest I'm not sure if this even came in working condition. The volume was so low that I could hear the plucking of my bass strings on my actual bass guitar over the so-called amplification. If I turned up the drive knob even a little bit it sounded 'farty' instead of over-driven. Even for a practice amp, this thing has to actually be loud enough and have a decent enough tone to enjoy playing. It really sounded like it was broken, so that might have been the problem. I would wait to read some more reviews before giving this a shot. Comments about Vox Pathfinder 10W Bass Combo Amp: As a portable practice amp, it suffices.
I think it sounds too thin, really have to turn up the bass. Once you thicken it up a little it'll get a motown-ish sound. Odia Serial Song Jiban Sathi. Plugged into a recording platform, it sounds very thumpy, turn up the gain it's pretty good for garage rock tones. WHAT I LOVE this amp for is as a double duty amp, as I think it sounds better as a guitar amp (or harp), especially with a cigar box guitar! So if you're a guitarist looking for a bass amp, this might be a fun option.
