Second, what the heck happened to the factory shop / service manual that is referred to many-a-times here on the forum and that sticky at top of this forum, but seems to have disappeared?!?? As a side-note, I have to say, I am quite impressed with what I see in these engines. They seem to be a lot of power (torque) in a (relatively) small package and are pretty easy to work on since they don't have a bunch of electronics on them (I generally avoid working on anything later than about 1985-90 because of this!) Would love to put one of these engines in my 1973 GMC van, though it might be a pretty tight fit!

Look for 'QOS' or 'QOS-II' or there abouts.The owner isn't sure of the model year, he thinks 1992 but the decal on the valve cover has production date of 11/92, isn't that pretty late for a 1992? Sticker also says '4BD1T' on it, 238CID / 3.9L (but in cc).

I realize the valve cover could have been swapped but I don't think so.everything looks bone stock and not really messed with (other than wiring). OH, almost forgot-the decal also says 'meets 1993 California emissions' or something to that effect. I will take a picture tomorrow and post it to be sure, though. The injectors being 'bolt on' or the other type is a good visual ID, I guess? (again from another post here). Here's what I have been doing so far on the NPR, by the way, been going through all of the ground points and cleaning them up. Chasing the threads, wire-bushing the terminals, adding dielectric grease, etc.

They are all really bad and corroded-haven't seen this much rust and corrosion since I lived in Michigan! This truck must have been near the coast for a while, or something. Also added this much needed larger cab to frame ground strap today (picture above), going to add a few more 10gauge wire grounds too, on other locations.

I am convinced a lot of the weird electrical problems on this truck are due to bad grounds (I have seen this soooo often on older vehicles). OK, big update as I have engine and specs sticker pictures.

Apparently, my old eyes didn't read the grubby specs sticker very well as it says made in 11/93 and 4BD2TC once I cleaned it off! *doh* The owner also finally found the title and it says 1994, So yeah it's a 1994 NPR with 4BD2TC, THAT'S the manual I need very much. Also, I finished chasing/cleaning all the grounds the other day and the awful looking battery terminals and cables. Also fabbed up a temporary fusible link out of bulk fusible link wire and a couple of connectors and added several more grounds as well as a battery cable linking the battery neg cable to frame to the transmission ground cable. THE NPR STARTED RIGHT UP AND ALMOST EVERYTHING IS NOW WORKING GREAT!! All the dash lights that were on and just stayed on now are now lit only on the first few seconds on startup and then go out.

The starter motor also audibly cranked faster and the owner said the headlights look much brighter. Only things still not working are the coolant temp gauge (probably just needs the sensor replaced?) and the wipers (motor is getting juice but is hot and not moving anything-possible jammed? Otherwise replace it, I assume). I still have a bit to go and the owner wants me to do a tune up and check the turbo, etc. So I could still REALLY still use that manual! Also, I can gladly host the 4BDT1C & 4BDT2C manuals on my website for awhile, so people can get it again here, if you guys want?

(By the way, I have tried to post some more pictures here repeatedly but I seem to be ridiculously limited to bandwidth for some reason nor can I just reference pictures from my website, either. Like many others here, my interest is in the Isuzu engine, not Isuzu trucks, but I did download one truck service manual, because it included some gearbox info that I wanted to see, however it is for 1999 to 2001 model with 4HE1 engine, MXA and MBP gearbox, and Aisin 450-43LE automatic transmission. I have some engine and gearbox manuals, but nothing with what you are after.I hear ya, I am working on the truck for a friend.

I think it's a pretty well designed truck and I am pretty impressed with how simple it actually is. My old man has talked about picking one up for a few years so might end up with one yet. However, it is the engine I am more interested in, as well-pretty simple and relatively compact plus an amazing torque rating. I'm always keeping an eye out for smaller diesel engines useful for a future swap into my van (1973 GMC) or older service truck I am going to eventually pick up. I love the older vans and trucks (like 1974 and older) due to their ease in maintenance and cheap parts but they weren't really doing diesel in them, back then.
