How do I upgrade XC8 compiler from free version to Pro with Omniscient Code Generation? I have installed XC8 under MPLAB-X and I have rapidly filled up the device. When I installed it, it said that I could upgrade to Pro mode for 60 days.

Memory Summary: Program space used 36D4h ( 14036) of 4000h words ( 85.7%) Data space used 172h ( 370) of 400h bytes ( 36.1%) EEPROM space used 5Ch ( 92) of 100h bytes ( 35.9%) Data stack space used 0h ( 0) of 19Ch bytes ( 0.0%) Configuration bits used 2h ( 2) of 2h words (100.0%) ID Location space used 0h ( 0) of 4h bytes ( 0.0%) Running this compiler in PRO mode, with Omniscient Code Generation enabled, produces code which is typically 40% smaller than in Free mode. The MPLAB XC8 PRO compiler output for this code could be 4800 words smaller. See for more information. I have looked at Forums and noted the 'Options for XC8' and it is set to Pro. I get the output above on 'Clean and Build'. I get an identical output under 'Free' mode with 'Clean and Build', so the Pro switch is having no effect.

I installed this before the Masters 2014 and I was pretty sure I did the 'Free' install, but it occurs to me that the Pro mode has expired. Would this be a fair summary? What about having Microchip promoting the FREE optimization mode to the STANDARD level for the free use in honor of MPLAB C18 and his development team? There will be more reasons to stay with the Microchip ecosystem apart of the price wink: (BTW, where is that emoticon with tongue?:P ).

Will ease the wait for the day when all XC compilers will be free with no restrictions (maybe a Christmas gift? I'm not kidding, but you can take it as you please:P (hopefully your threshold is not too high LoL: ) Vasi. Thanks Ian, it was a good reading! Personally, I wouldn't care, I have other free solutions (different languages) for professional compilers - two of them better than MPLAB C18 full optimization.

But is good to know what the future has in the bag for an eventual PIC developer. I play now with ATmegas and I like them a lot - much, much better than a PIC18. And now I wait for Arduino Zero to enter in the Cortex M0+ world, which offers ATXmega peripherals. The only thing which still keeps me close to MCHP microcontrollers is the convenient price. A PIC18F46K22 is cheaper than an ATmega644P. I even did a development board for PIC18F46K22 and started to create an alternative to Sanguino, including good C libraries (not stupid Wiring language) for both MPLAB C18 (which I continue to advertise) and XC8 (for which I have hopes that MCHP will revert back to common sense and come up with a viable solution).

But personally I'm not tied to C language and as I said, I have excellent alternatives (JALv2 and PMP) from PIC10F to PIC18F and LunaAVR for AVR and Xmegas. So, I wish Microchip all the best! I had purchased the C18 PRO compiler about ten years ago, and upgraded to XC8 about 3-4 years ago. Previously my projects compiled in PRO mode, but after recent upgrades to latest version of MPLABX and XC8, they are compiling in the limited FREE mode. I had installed the license and I thought it was using PRO mode, but it seems that after the upgrades and perhaps a restart, it seems stuck in FREE mode although the license status seems to indicate it should be good for PRO mode. HPA has expired, but it shows XC8 in PRO mode in the project properties: License Status Microchip XC License Manager Version: 2.02 License Path: C: ProgramData Microchip xclm/license/ Product: xc8 Type: Workstation Version: 1.0 Mode: PRO Key: xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx Product: rlm_roam Type: Workstation Version: 1.0 Mode:?

I tried restarting MPLABX but no joy. [edit] I had to install the evaluation version of C18 because the original CDROM for Ver 2.20 would not work with my Win8 computer. Gpg Dragon Box Usb Serial Controller Driver Free Download.

That might have something to do with my problem. Mirchi Barbie Girl Mp4 Download on this page. I was going to try XC8 from MPLAB8.92 but apparently it can work only from MPLABX. It seems stuck in FREE mode although the license status seems to indicate it should be good for PRO mode. HPA has expired, but it shows XC8 in PRO mode in the project properties. Versions of XC8 issued before your HPA expired will continue to work in Pro mode. Versions released after the HPA expired will only work in free mode.

That is simply how their licensing works. Note, you can have multiple versions of XC8 installed at once, and specify which one to use in your project properties. Ah, that was the problem. I tried to install XC8 1.12 (12/04/12) because I think my purchase date was Oct 2012, but it had an error with installation (some HTTP problem). So I successfully installed 1.21 (10/4/13) and the project now compiles in PRO mode. I wish the IDE or help files would explain this, but you are absolutely correct, and I greatly appreciate your help!

[edit] I was able to get it to compile in PRO mode using XC8 1.33 (8/25/14). Maybe only the latest version requires a new license upgrade. I didn't try 1.34 (2/16/15) but I think I had that before, and it probably worked. There are variations in the output based on the compiler: v1.21 checksum: 0x4943 Code: 3212 Data: 457 v1.30 checksum: 0xde9e Code: 3182 Data: 457 v1.33 checksum: 0x501e Code: 3219 Data: 458 v1.35 checksum: 0x9dba Code: 3824 Data: 479.

Is there a doctor in da house that can help me apply the medicine to my XC8 v1.35 installation on my Mac? I tried all the steps mentioned in this thread, but somehow can't get it to work. This is what I did: 1) I downloaded the files from the top post 2) My XC8 is installed as a free license (not the time limited Pro trial) 3) opened up the terminal, and moved to the install directory of the XC 8 compiler, whis in my case is: /Applications/microchip/mplabx/v3.20/mplab_ide.app/Contents/Resources/mplab_ide/ 4) tested the current state of the compiler with ' xc8 --chip=16f1516 --mode=pro' and get the following (expected) result: Microchip MPLAB XC8 C Compiler (Free Mode) V1.35 Build date: Jul 7 2015 Part Support Version: 1.35 (B) Copyright (C) 2015 Microchip Technology Inc. License type: Node Configuration (939) no file arguments (908) exit status = 1 5) I renamed the original xclm file to xclm.old 6) Copied the new xclm file from the download to my working directory 7) ran the new xclm using ' sudo./xclm', but got the (unexpected) result ' Nothing to do' 8) when I recheck the status of the comiler again with ' xc8 --chip=16f1516 --mode=pro', I still get the same result: Microchip MPLAB XC8 C Compiler (Free Mode) V1.35 Build date: Jul 7 2015 Part Support Version: 1.35 (B) Copyright (C) 2015 Microchip Technology Inc. License type: Node Configuration (939) no file arguments (908) exit status = 1 Am I doing something wrong? I'm running Mac OS X 10.11.2, with MPLAB X IDE v3.20, XC8 v1.35 with v1.35b part support. Any help is greatly appreciated!
