Jack went downstairs with Annie and saw their saw their dad downstairs as well. He gave them hot chocolate. When they finished drinking it, they said goodbye to their dad and went outside in frog creek woods to the tree house. Morgan left a note on the floor. It said that they need to find a unicorn book in the city of New York. They both wished that they can.

The tree house spun and spun until it stopped. They perched upon a oak tree. Hey both went in to a library, and fond the book. It was called unicorns. But, on the back of the note that Morgan gave them, she said to go to a museum and look for a unicorn dummy. So, they both went into the museum and asked a man if he knows where a unicorn dummy is. He led them to where the fake unicorn was.

So, Teddy appeared out of no where. He said that he will turn the unicorn real with his magic. He turned the fame into a real unicorn! Jack and Annie we're excited, and asked to ride on it. Teddy said ok. So Teddy, Annie, and Jack where riding on the unicorn. Jack and Annie needed to go home soon, so Teddy dropped them off at the oak tree.

Annie and Jack put the unicorn book that they collected into their collection of objects that they found on other missions. They went in the tree house, then went home. It’s a cold November night rush to the tree house. There they find a book and scroll of parchment paper with a note and poem on it. Jack and Annie must decipher the poem in order to accomplish their mission. Using their book of magical rhymes to help them along the way, they discover many sights.

They are transported to New York in 1938 during the depression. Jack and Annie must save the Unicorn that is in captivity before the evil Gilda and Balor take him back to their evil wizard. Throughout their adventure in New York, Annie and Jack visit Central Park on a cold snowy night, the Belvedere Castle, the Bronx Zoo, and the Cloisters of the Metropolitan Museum. They must learn to navigate the streets of New York where people and businesses are suffering during the Depression.

Using their rhyme book and working together, Jack and Annie defeat Gilda and Balor and save the unicorn. What a surprise this turned out to be! For the first time in this series (36 books in!) we've got a pair of recurring villains! And an actual fight scene! Okay, so no punches are thrown, but Jack and Annie actually get into a brawl of sorts with a pair of evil wizard apprentices. This was on top of what was already a really interesting mission, sending the kids to New York City in the 1930s to free a unicorn from a spell in the midst of a raging blizzard.

The New York landmarks are lovingly described (and beautifully illustrated by artist Sal Murdocca). A number of plotlines spanning the previous three books are resolved, and there is a really tender scene involving Jack choosing to use one of their magical rhymes. The unicorn is loads of fun too, and a few plot items that seemed a bit too convenient get nicely wrapped up in a final twist. Best book I've read in this series so far. My only word of caution would be that this is probably not the best starting point.

I'd at least recommend reading a couple of the books that lead directly up to this one (I'd read #'s 33 and 35, plus lots of the earlier ones). The Kiddo really enjoyed this one too, especially the payoff on a magic rhyme that had been teased through this whole story arc. Teaching Idea: Personally, I would not use this book as an educational resource in my classroom. I feel that the book is more geared towards just a fun read for children rather than educational. However, if one were to use it, it would be a tool to use when introducing The Great Depression to students. This series was always one of my favorites growing up! I think i loved the travel aspect and that is where i have fallen in love with traveling the world.

Reading books helps you travel the world without ever having to leave your home. I think that these books are great for students because it allows them to travel to places they might not ever go. Even though it if fiction, it still gives a real life experience.

In this book, jack and annie travel to New York during the great depression and they are trying to stop the worst blizzard. Being able to have some nonfiction (great depression) mixed in with some fiction (unicorn) gives an interesting twist and allows students to really enjoy the book as well as the series!

Recommend this book to elementary students! 'Blizzard of the Blue Moon' by Mary Pope Osborne. The main characters are Jake and Annie. In November Jake was at home reading a book his dad came home and ask if he wanted some hot chocolate. Jake said 'yes', then Annie came home and told Jake that the magic tree house is back.

Jake told his dad to 'Hold on the hot chocolate for a little bit we will be outside.' They went to the magic tree house and Jake said,' We are going to have another merlin mission.'

Annie asked,' How many spells 'Blizzard of the Blue Moon' by Mary Pope Osborne. The main characters are Jake and Annie. Jake told his dad to 'Hold on the hot chocolate for a little bit we will be outside.' They went to the magic tree house and Jake said,' We are going to have another merlin mission.'

Annie asked,' How many spells did we use?' Jake said,' We used 7 spells so we have 3 spells left.' They looked at the spells that are left. They found the message and Jake put it in his backpack. They found the book and went to New York in 1983 and landed in central park. Jake's backpack turn into a briefcase and that they had old winter clothes.

Annie always wanted to be in New York. They read the message (it is a riddle). They need to find a unicorn that was trap and locked away for centuries and a little girl who loves him will guide him on the blue moon of the 1000 year.

If he doesn't find his way out his magic will faded away and his heart and his magic is gone forever. You need to call his name the roman flower. Jake knew it was going to be Annie who showed him the way.

Then, the blizzard got worse, they saw 2 teens on the top of the hill, but then they are gone. Jake and Annie went into the woods. Jake found out if the go this way they will be lost forever. Jake couldn't find Annie anywhere, he used the find the lost treasure spell and found Annie. They found a castle where this guy study the planets.

Jake and Annie asked Where can we find a strange animal. The guy said,' The zoo.' They said,' Thank you'. They went to a train station. A guy ask for money, they gave him money and said,” God Bless you two.” they went on the train and ask a girl when do they get off to go to the zoo.

She said,”I will tell you when you can get off.” she told them then asked a lady where is the zoo, but she said,” You two are at the wrong stop.” the girl got them on the wrong stop. They found a taxi driver, they asked him if they can go to the zoo, he said yes, but they got stuck. Jake and Annie went to the museum, but they turn around and found that the taxi is gone.

They went inside the museum and found the unicorn inside a cloth. They said,” The Roman flower.”, but nothing happened.

Then, two people came and one of them had a black rope and one of them said,”Dianas” a unicorn appeared and tried to tie the rope around him, but annie stopped them. Jake used one of the spells, he used the fog one they both hopped on Diana's and went out of the museum and the blizzard stop. Everyone saw the unicorn and they went to the park. I like that it used science and mythology in it and lots of magic. Unicorns are very beautiful creatures in myths and the spell that they used to help them along the way makes it feel like that anything is possible.

The castle was full of science it seems right to know. What I dislike is that we don’t know how the blizzard started. It because it seems unnatural that a big blizzard starts and ends when the unicorn comes out.

I think kids and parents a like would enjoy this book. It's because this book is full of magic and knowing something that had happened in the past. It shows something that some of use would not know. Some of the things in the book are in New York today. I really enjoyed this book very much.

OK- this book is TOTALLY not for me. This was, obviously, one for the kids. We finished Narnia and are waiting on Percy Jackson to come from the library, so I read this little thing that my mom either bought for the boys or accidentally packed in our stuff. I'm not sure how we came by this book actually. Turns out, it's #36 in a series.

I will say that I really, really like the idea of this book series. The kids have a magic tree house that transports them through time, giving them magical missions to complete.

Here's the cool part: they travel to REAL times and places, learning about them as they go. They are given a spell book and an 'lesson book' to go with each mission, so they read snippets of real, historical facts to go with their magical fun.

In this book, they traveled to New York in the 1930s, so they learned about Central Park, the Depression, New York City, etc. Just little paragraphs of factual information tucked into the story, but still, as a parent, I could see this series being a fun way to sneak a little bit of history into their reading habits. Jack and Annie have almost no money so it is hard to get transportation to there destination. Will the unicorn be freed or will it be cast under a spell and trapper forever? You will have to read to find out. I like this book because it has action and I didn’t want to put the book down. I also like the book because the conflict and solution was put together well. I enjoyed ever word of the book. I think other people should read it because it has a little bit of suspense.

I like those types of books, but it might not be true for others. I would give this book a four out of five star rating. Aidan picked this out as his free book from Borders (for reading 10 books). Aidan was pretty absorbed by it. He liked the characters and he really liked trying to guess what would be happening next. It was easy reading for Aidan, and the vocabulary was not above him at all.

There's just no beauty to the language in this series - it's a decent book, but not lovely in the way classic children's literature is.

I did appreciate the snippets of history and geography that are found throughout the book. I think that is an interesting angle for kids. And, since a good chunk of the action took place in the Cloisters of the Metropolitan Museum, I now can't wait to take Aidan there! We will likely read more in this series of books, though I doubt I will look forward to reading them as much as I look forward to others. Synopsis: 'Jack and Annie are off on another Merlin Mission. As with the rest of the set, they were sent to a time in actual history but had to complete their mission on their own with the help of some magical rhymes. This was a really interesting one with a lot of historical elements interwoven into a story. They did not use their research book as much in this story but they did rely on each other more.

I have noticed that Jack seems to be maturing but Annie still seems like she is still acting impulsively and much younger than she should be at this point. Sometimes I'll find a book I remember reading when I was young and will read it again before passing it on. I don't rate these books using my normal scale, instead I give most of them three stars. Mary Pop Osborne has a very unique and descriptive writing style, which makes her books so alive in my mind. I would recommend it to people who love fiction and unicorns because a story about saving a unicorn is fascinating to many unicorn lovers, in my opinion.

I read this story once, a long time ago. And I could not stop thinking about it, of figure out what bok it was. I thought it had been a book called 'The Last Unicorn' so i looked and looked.

I read the story as fast as I could, and it was the book I had been praying to find for years! I almost started crying! Then I realized how stupid I must look, shouting for joy over a Magic Tree house book:).
